Academics

The Marin Catholic curriculum is designed to provide a challenging, college prep experience for all of our students. Along with the development and enhancement of essential skills, the required course of study encourages exploration and self-evaluation. Successfully completing the academic program, which includes choosing the most rigorous course of study one can, qualifies students for admission to the most competitive colleges and universities. All of our graduates go on to colleges, with 95% of the Class of 2010 matriculating to four-year colleges and universities.

Typical Freshman Schedule

  • English/Honors English
  • Religious Studies
  • Algebra/Algebra 2/Honors Algebra 2
  • Foreign Language (Italian or Spanish)
  • Global Studies/Honors Global Studies
  • Biology/Honors Biology
  • Elective (Physical Education, Computer Literacy, Visual or Performing Arts and more)

Graduation Requirements

Students are required to pursue a course of study which includes enrollment in seven academic classes each year and which leads to the completion of a minimum of 260 total credits: 

  • 3 1/2 years of Social Studies (35 credits)
  • 4 years of English (40 credits)
  • 3 years of Mathematics to include Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II  (30 credits)
  • 2 years of Science (20 credits)
  • 2 years of Language (20 credits)
  • 1 year of Visual or Performing Arts (10 credits)
  • 4 years of Theology (40 credits)
  • Electives to complete 260 credits required for graduation
  • Christian Service - 25 hours for each year enrolled at Marin Catholic
  • A Retreat for each year enrolled at Marin Catholic
  • Completion of the College Project for Juniors

Honors and AP

Honors and AP classes offer a more challenging curriculum to students who qualify for an accelerated course of study. Advanced Placement and other Honors courses are designed to provide students with the opportunity for more advanced and in-depth study of a particular subject. Students enrolled in Advanced Placement courses have the ability to gain college credit by passing the exams.
