Last Chance to Host a Student from Spain
The Barry family is looking for host families in Marin County for three 16 year old Spanish children from the historic Andalusian town of Antequera, Malaga.  The students, two boys and a girl, are hoping to stay with a family for a period of 2-3 weeks between late July and the middle of August.

Two of the students, Lorenzo and Mercedes, stayed with the Barrys in San Rafael last year for a month and loved the experience. Alex will be making his first visit to the U.S.  All of them hope to improve their English language skills and expect to be in Marin for the period of their stay and plan to stay with the Barrys for some of the time.

They are interested in sports; last year they went to baseball games and they became fans!  Lorenzo's family has been part of Sue Barry's life for many years, as she has known him since he was born.  If you know of anyone who could host one of these students please contact Sue Barry at  sue.barry@comcast.net or on her cell phone (415) 902-1242.

We look forward to welcoming students and parents to this event.

Guest Speaker: Jeffrey Leiken M.A.
Academic Support Center is proud to present guest speaker Jeffrey Leiken, MA. Jeff's presentation will reveal the seven common shared traits of families who raise kids who, despite all the challenges and distractions teens face in today's culture, remain positive and inspired as they grow. Jeff will offer intriguing examples of how to bring back the inspiration and the positive attitude that still exists in a young adolescent. Join Jeff and the ASC staff for the compelling presentation and take home skills that can help you and your teenager. What you learn here, can make a difference in our sons' and daughters' lives.

The presentation is Wednesday, April 25, from 6:30-8pm in the Pope John Paul II Student Center. Click here if you will be attending.

Academic or Athletic Grievances
Protocol for Resolving Academic Conflicts
(from page 26 of the Parent/Student Handbook)

  1. Student should talk to teacher and/or counselor about any specific concerns in the class.
  2. Parent should contact the teacher about any specific concerns in the class.
  3. Parent and Student should contact Department Chair if no resolution has been achieved.
  4. Parent and Student should contact Asst. Principal of Curriculum and Instruction if no resolution has been achieved.  The Asst. Principal will convene a meeting of all involved to reach

    closure on the situation.

  5. If any party is not satisfied with the decision reached, an appeal may be made to the Principal who will offer a final determination.
Marin Catholic supports its coaches’ decisions on playing time and game strategy. In virtually every case of a grievance regarding playing time or strategy, the coach’s decision is final. If a student or parent does have a grievance of another nature, the following procedure MUST be employed:

1) The involved student athlete MUST discuss any issue with the coach before parents become involved. The coach should never be contacted at home. Also, a coach should never, under any circumstances, be contacted directly before or shortly after a contest.

2) If a grievance still exists after the first step in the process, the student athlete and his/her parents may schedule a meeting with the coaching staff.

3) If a grievance still exists after the meeting with the coaching staff, the student athlete and/or family may submit, in writing, the grievance to the Athletic Director. At this point the Athletic Director and the student athlete and/or family will meet with the coach.

Celebrate Candlemas with
Marin Catholic on Thursday...
What is Candlemas? On Thursday, the Church celebrates the feast of the Presentation of the Lord (Luke 2: 22-40), which occurs forty days after the birth of Jesus.  Also known as "Candlemas", the liturgy includes the blessing and procession of candles.  Candles will be supplied, but you may bring a candle from home to be blessed (to be used for  personal prayer, to place at the dinner table, etc.).

Traditionally this day is also a celebration of consecrated life in the church; we are so pleased to be able to honor our three Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist!

Mass will begin at 7:20am in the foyer outside the chapel to allow extra time for the candlelit procession.
